Cristián Silva-Avária

BIOGRAPHY

Cristián Silva-Avária  (Santiago, Chile, 1975)

Is a visual artist, photographer and video-maker.  He has exhibited individually and collectively at a large number of exhibitions held in Brazil, Spain, Germany, China, Malaysia, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Italy and the United States.  He is also participated in a variety of residencies and biennials, including the 3rd Mercosur Biennial (2001), and the 55th Venice Biennial in 2013.  He lived for four years in Rio de Janeiro, where he prepared his thesis on image and urban experience. In those years, he also collaborated with German filmmaker Harun Farocki and curator Antje Ehman on the project entitled Labour in a Single Shot which explored the relationship between image, work and environment.  Since 2003 he has lectured at Universidad Diego Portales where he imparts courses, workshops and seminars on visual media, the politics of image and public dimension.
